Fish | Basics with Babish

  • On this episode of Basics, we're taking a look at a few ways to simply prepare fish. Whether you're baking or frying, it's an economically and ecologically responsible way to make dinner tonight.

    Grocery List:
    Salmon fillets
    Panko bread crumbs
    Thyme, chopped
    Rosemary, minced
    White fish (high quality like cod or haddock)
    Russet potatoes
    Peanut or vegetable oil
    Kosher salt
    Ground black pepper
    Grain mustard
    All purpose flour
    Baking powder
    Mexican beer (or beer of your choice)
    Tartar sauce (optional)

    Special equipment:
    Stainless steel pot, deep enough for frying
    Thermometer for frying oil

    Those are French Fries. Chips are way thicker and not crispy. If any American comes to Ireland or the UK, I recomend trying them.

    How much does salmon cost on the east coast? It's anywhere between $15-18/lb where I live in the midwest so it's a bit of a delicacy.

    You overcooked the chips quite a bit. Fries in general should only be a cooked to a light, golden, not dark brown.
