  • I styled 3 outfits inspired by the popular fashions of twenty years ago! From Rachel Green from Friends, to Natalie Imbruglia and Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls, I had a great time pretending it was 1997 and letting my inner 90s child shine through. Let me know what you think of my ~lookbook~ and if you want to see more of these!

Hello bbs! I finally finished the 1997 video, lol! What do you guys want to see next? I honestly want to do every year of the 90s now... can't wait for '98 and the arrival of Britney/Xtina/dueling pop stars. Which outfit was your fave?

  • Mady Panda  (Mar 31, 2019))

this is my first thought when i think of safiya!! she is so well-spoken and i love how she explains things in her videos

  • Cat  (Sep 1, 2017))

Safiya is a graduate from Stanford and she has an English degree. You can tell she knows what she is doing and how emotive she is... it makes sense she was also working in theater and writing a lot. She's awesome

i was a teen in 97 you got most of it right the only thing is your pants were hiked up way to high. it was all about the low rise and showing off your calvin klein underwear.

  • The Beaumonts  (1 day ago))

I think low rise came in about 1996.

  • Hadi Hatab  (Apr 16, 2019))

High rise was still popular but younger people started wearing the high waisted jeans more relaxed and low slung to mimic the hip hop and grunge look sometimes even cutting off the waistband. Low rise boot cuts and flares would go mainstream a few years later.

  • Naiana de S. Nascimento  (May 28, 2018))

When she says 1997, all that comes to my mind is Sabrina's looks in Sabrina the Tennage Witch. I love the style on the first seasons of Sabrina, the high waisted pants and skirts, flannels and half sheer half solid color blouses, i just loved 'em and if i dressed like the show today no one would noticed.

  • S.S. SLIMES SHOP  (Apr 10, 2019))

  • Katherin Rider  (Mar 28, 2019))

What comes to my mind is JNCOs, cargo pants, and band graphic T-shirts.I know because I wore them in 1997, in high school; either that, or I paired my JNCOs with a really cute midriff baring tank.

  • Perticular Panda  (Aug 11, 2018))

Sheer, sheer, sheer, sheer, SHEER :P

  • Emm_er  (Feb 8, 2019))

    Don't belabor the point.

  • K Dud  (Jun 2, 2018))

The bonus outfit was definitely on point for teens in 97

  • Jessica Kraus  (Apr 10, 2019))

I agree! But I feel like 97 was more puka shells. The tattoo necklaces were more 99-2000 (at least where I grew up). Dress though- spot on!
