China has been quietly detaining its population of Uighurs, the country’s Muslim minority, in internment camps. First-hand accounts from inside the camps paint a brutal picture of torture and political indoctrination. At first, China denied the existence of these camps and tried to cover them up. But as a network of academics and activists uncovered evidence of the camps' locations, and the reality of what’s going on inside, China changed its story.

It’s kind of funny how people who say they hate Muslims for what they did to Europe, are the same ones who are calling out China for putting them in camps. Hypocrisy at its finest!

China controlled it before oil and coal are found and mined. Xinjiang is important because it is a strategic barrier. It is the result of WWII. Any attempt of secession certainly will be treated harshly, no matter China is democracy or not since it is a big threat to national security and existing geopolitical politics stability. Even war is possible no to mention some detention camps. So forget of so called independence. To join and contribute to the development of the economy, and then to seek some changes together with emerging majority middle classes is the most rational way.

Funny it mentioned Uyghurs have tried to establish independent country twice in the last century, first time for one year, and second time for 5 years. Anybody wonder which country they are part of before, between and after? 268 years of Qing dynasty, 37 years of Republic of China and 70 years of People's Republic of China is a joke to you or what?
