-Backpicks BPM is a proprietary model that focuses on player skill instead of situational value. It is box score only.
-PIPM is a hybrid model (box score and plus-minus) that "luck-adjusts" plus-minus data (regresses FT% and 3pt%) to account for noise and is more sensitive to a player's role/fit on a given team. Created by @JacobEGoldstein
-RAPTOR is 538's model that blends box score information, plus-minus data and player tracking data to estimate player impact.

I'm thinking more about what kind of defensive roster could slow down Luka's Mavs. Clippers seem like a candidate. Thoughts?

Umm... I mean... in MJ's actual second season he averaged 37 points. I guess he was 23. He dropped 28/7/6 on 52% on 10 less possessions a game at 21 years old. But redefined sure...

It continues to amaze me how much "Traveling" is allowed now. Try to imagine him playing in 1965 when he would not be allowed to do most of those moves you show him making. Or, imagine Jerry West, or Nate Archibald being ALLOWED to do that. The kid is supremely talented, no doubt, but how can i get excited when every time I see him he's violating the rules I grew up with??

Rebounding is a major part of defense, and he excels at that.

Did the Kings make a mistake in not drafting Doncic as Kings' management explained Bagley was a better fit, a better player, that that he had a higher ceiling? Since Bagley has been injured, could the Kings' rationale make sense?

Hey man. That was a good video. Your take and insight are spot on. I liked him since he started. Now it only gets better.

Let's not forget his into his 6th season as a professional ball player. He's won big games and big titles in Europe, both with Madrid and the Slovenian national team. His trophy room before he went to the NBA was already loaded (Liga, Euroleague, European Championship). He has the IQ of a Larry Bird and the killer instinct of a Jordan. In a league where defense has become number 34789 on the priority list, his outstanding skills become all the more visible. I don't mean to underestimate the level at which he plays - quite the opposite actually. But in fairness you should compare him to same professional experienced players, and not "just" label him as a 20-year old player. Take the 2014 draftees for example... :)

The only thing Luka might have against him for MVP is he's not a big flashy player with regards to dunks. Personally I think that metric is bunk, but that's how the NBA is these days...

  • Luka doncic is better than lebron james

luka is better than LeBron but not better than big 0 and elgin baylor in their second and first seasons

People constantly say that Luka isn’t athletic..

Sure, he doesn’t have the hops of prime LeBron, Carter or Gerald Green, isn’t as ridiculously fast as Westbrook or Fox, and doesn’t have the handles of Kyrie and Crawford.

But he’s more than adequate in all those aspects. He’s far stronger than he has a right to be, is deceptively agile and has truly solid handles. He also understands basketball to the point where he’s perfectly capable of reading plays and positioning himself in the best possible way. He’s way above average as a rebounder, near the top as a passer and shoots the three only slightly worse than the very best specialists.

    He is exceptionally athletic.
