if i remember the 7.3 alternator is disabled for a set time from when you start it to keep the glow plugs from overloading the voltage regulator .. mine does the same thing it never charges right when i start it a few min later its charging .. i believe it comes on when the glow plugs go off

Great video. Voltmeter numbers and pulley diameter meaurement was a good touch.

  • Antonio Claudio Michael

It's not weird it's a higher output alternator the voltage is going to be higher when the system has stuff on because the alternator is now engaged to run higher because there are current draws

  • Antonio Claudio Michael

Do you like the colorful sockets from harbor freight how have they held up

  • Antonio Claudio Michael

Great video nick always nice to provide the batteries more charging power

Another small "mod" you could add is a second charging cable to the driver side battery. I got a 6 gauge red wire segment from Lowe's for cheap

I don't understand why you wouldn't get a upgraded 7.3 alternator, They make high output ones and no need to modify a factory bracket

Nick. You can installed LTO 2 section 40a/h. And forgot about den start.
I am use 1 section for my LD3, and I don't have problem.

Did anyone notice the engine had a missfire?

the reason on first start it could have read low at first is the glow plugs will stay on after starting, can stay on a lot longer in cold weather but only a few seconds in warm weather. Great mod, may do this in the future!!!

You got a bad diode in your alternator it takes a little while before the alternator energizes and then starts charging

Truck sounded like it was adjusting to load while running....could be alternator creating load...? Either way, great vid. I’ll probably do this on a Cummins swap...except everything is on the left!

Why does it sound like the idle breaks up?

Might I had putting a rubber boot over the connection since it is sitting right on the top now, hate to see ya accidentally get shocked.
