  • What Would Prevent You From Going Vegan If It both Saved the World & Your Body?

Want to save the world, save some money, and live a few years longer than you might otherwise? You can do all three at once by simply going vegan. The single most powerful thing that any American can do to fight global climate change is to stop eating meat and dairy products. It’s also the single most effective way to prevent a heart attack or a stroke, as we’ve learned from people like Bill Clinton who have become vegans after having a heart attack.

There are vegan bodybuilders, vegan politicians like Cory Booker, and everyday vegans all across the country who are doing their part to help save this world. Eating meat and dairy not only pollutes the atmosphere and environment, but it also pollutes your body and your mind. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of age-related dementia, and meat and dairy products speed up the deterioration of your veins and arteries.

In every regard, one of the best things you can do for yourself and your life is to become vegan.

First, I'm a progressive liberal, special ed teacher, and American Mexican born and raised in America. I can't agree with the vegan or vegetarian "lifestyle. " As a former vegetarian, back in my 20's and going to the gym 4 to 5 days a week, I never progressed on my weight loss. In fact, my mid section remained at over 40 inches. My weight went down, but my mid section and my physique never improved being a vegetarian for 4 years. I went full on keto 2 years ago, and my weight went from 269 pounds to 185 pounds, I reverse my pre-diabetes, A1C is at 5.0%, normalized my blood pressure: 106/75, and have good cholesterol numbers far better than the average American. I also do heavy weights, and at 37 years old I can lift a lot more in weight than when I was a teen and in my 20's. You all may say "you should've gone vegan." Yeah, but the fact that I went ketogenic, and have better results than when I was a vegetarian for 4 years. It shows that there's something more to health and not linking veganism as a way to protect our earth. There's a way to do it, in a humane manner, and that is to totally destroy the meat factories and give the power back to farmers and organic farmers. In this scheme, cows and animals will be able to "grass" and cultivate the fields outside, which specialists have said that grassland animals are the best way to protect and reverse global warming, then have cows for our food consumption needs. Veganism isn't the only way, there's more ways. And before someone on here stereotypes me, I do read, I'm an educator, and hold a Master's degree in education ( University of Southern California). I just go based on science and what I have seen and experienced. Vegetarianism never helped me, ketogenic did. It has given me back so much. Also! As a person of color, I can't help but see veganism as a racist filled ideological system, just my opinion of it.

Because we love BBQ, Filets, and Burgers. You eat grass, I’ll take the filets. Producing food has a cost. Did you fail ECON 101?
Corey Booker is a Moron. Not following that lead.

Proud carnivore here, would never compromise my health. Climate change is caused by industrial pollution and maybe making all those weapons y'all love dropping on poor brown folk(never brought up btw as an unspoken climate change contributor). Tackle that first before destroying lives with this suggestion, please. Cholesterol is essential for synapse production also, only found in animal fats.

Veganism lasted about 3 months for me - I found it impossible to be satisfied with meals that were totally foreign to those that I had been eating for 40 years. Cereal and OJ for breakfast, plus lunchtime PB and Jam on 12-Grain Bread every day, made me gain 30 pounds in those 3 months! I still have a shelf-load of white, red, and black beans that I cannot bear to eat again.

Going vegan can't save world in any way, only destroy people's health, their psychological health and poison world around them.

Cattle fed a diet of exclusively kelp (seaweed) causes them to only produce ~5% of the greenhouse gases that they produce when fed traditional cattle feed. This Seaweed cattle diet literally causes 95% of the CO2 & methane to simply not be produced in the first place! We can farm red meat in MANY ways, but it seems we're addicted to the worst possible (cheapest) methods?!? Maybe feed both Homo sapiens & our livestock healthier diets? Given that our livestock+us=90% of the mammals currently walking this Earth. Seaweed is a "super food", rich in antioxidants/vitamins & minerals. These nutrients help neutralize free radicals, which in turn lowers our risk of cancers & MANY other diseases... It just makes sense!

So glad Thom is covering this but when you go vegan you MUST take a b12 supplement.

I went vegan back in 2000. That year I experienced the worst cluster headaches in my life plus I lost the ability to digest milk. No thanks I'll do fasting and keep the meat!

I understand going Vegetarian/Vegan for health issues, but I'll never be swayed by the environmental reasons. I rather we just stop burning oil and look towards green tech.

I'm a vegan, have been for many years. People are not going to stop eating meat or animal products, or changing their diets, until there isn't any meat to eat.

Going vegan is a win win win win. Win for the animals, your health, the planet and the economy. Yes I did say the economy. Animal food production on top of everything else is controlled by a small number of big businesses who extract government subsidies which you and I paid for in taxes. The whole thing is run like cartel.

I have been practicing veganism and intermittent fasting for 7 years now and have never felt better. Reducing carbon emissions, animal suffering, and antibiotic resistance are bonuses. Excuses for not being vegans are lame. Get woke people.

Not everyone can be a vegan... but I suggest you come as close as possible.

Short answer its to late anyway. India has hit lethal wet bulb temperatures 4 days in a row. That area of the world has reached its limit as to habitability for humans. Next summer it will be worse and its going to keep going up even if you stopped all burning as of today. You would have to remove about 11 to 12 trillion tons of carbon from the atmosphere to reach stability. Simply put we cant do that. Plant trees no meet carbon capture whatever it will keep going up. Blue ocean event hits probably next couple years it goes way faster. Your goose is cooked might as well eat it.
