Chocolate Chip Cookies | Basics with Babish

  • This week on Basics we're taking a look at the quintessential cookie: chocolate chip. We're bumping up this basic biscuit from "Plain Jane" to premium.

    Grocery List:
    Unsalted butter (high quality)
    White sugar
    Brown sugar
    All Purpose flour
    Kosher salt
    Baking soda
    Chocolate chips (high quality)
    Nuts (walnuts or your favorite)
    Flaky sea salt

    Special equipment:
    Stand mixer (preferred, but you can use a hand mixer)
    Cooling rack (not necessary, but helpful!)

    Okay so I tasked myself with making these cookies and let me tell you, THESE WERE A CHORE TO MAKE BUT THEY ARE 100% WORTH IT. My first batch didn’t turn out too well for a number of reasons (i.e. I left them in the oven for a lot longer than I needed to, I used milk chocolate instead of semi sweet/dark chocolate, etc.) so I decided to try again except this time I changed it up. I browned salted butter instead of unsalted so that way I didn’t have to add the whole tablespoon of salt that was recommended...
